The greenhouse is turning green.
The first week of March we seed thousands of leeks and onions in the greenhouse. We always start alliums first due to there slow germination and growth and because they require a long season to reach maturity. Generally the alliums will live in the greenhouse for 8 to 10 weeks, and in late April or early May we will transplant them into the fields.
Sessantina Grossa, an Italian variety of broccoli rabe picutred above, is a very fast growing and frost-hardy member of the cabbage family. In two weeks we will transplant the rabe along with bok choy, kale, chard, head lettuce, and radicchio - our first transplanting of the year.
