The deer have nibbled the kale down to bare stalks - all 750 of the them (kale plants, not deer).  They roam the garden nightly, rummaging in the snow for vegetable scraps and browsing the last standing brassicas.  Last winter the deer nibbled dozens of apple tree saplings to the nubbins. This Fall, as a counter insurgence maneuver, I fenced each of the fruit trees individually - thus far the dear have left them in peace.
