Salad Turnips are sweet and tender and much mellower than the standard “purple top” turnips of European heritage. Often referred to as Hakurei (which is a variety of salad turnip), they are tasty on a spring crudités platter, dipped in salt, or roasted with a bit of this and a touch of that. This year Loma has added a purple variety to the rotation from an Asian centric seed company from California called Kitazawa Seed Co.
The Harvest is beginning to role in. For restaurant accounts this week we are harvesting bok choy, rapini, salad mix, arugula, French Breakfast and Easter Egg radishes, salad turnips, Rhubarb, asparagus, spinach, scallions, and chives. For our own private reserve we also have green garlic, kohlrabi, and a fine selection of herbs.
